		<description>I personally enter into this discussion with a negative perception of many of the &quot;debt elimination&quot; services. While I&#039;ve not had a personal experience with any of them, the whole idea and concept just sounds sleazy.

...and I assume that is part of the motivation for the article.

Now, given my disposition, I&#039;d have to add a question to the list... &quot;what can you do for me that I can not do for myself?&quot;  This is a tricky question as I am really addressing this question to &quot;me&quot;
as the person contacting a debt service as I am to the actual debt service.

Being in debt is a stressful thing... I KNOW this... and being in a debt crisis situation (where you stand to lose stuff) is even worse. There is a TON of emotion surrounding this. But rather than hire an agency to tell you what to do (even IF they are honest and on the level) take a deep breath and remove the emotion yourself.

The ONLY honest way a debt service can make money is by negotiating a low payoff from the debt holder and translatting to you a higher payoff that is still lower than what you owe... hey, you can do that on your own... pick up the phone and negotiate on your own behalf.

Ok, enough of my rants... thanks Wisdom Journal for this thought provoking article and for allowing me the chance to voice my rant!

Thanks!
