i too like haggling for price after all its our hard earned money. One more secret tip is to go through stuff silently when the other customer is negotiating price with the shop keeper, keep an eye on how much he has paid and take a clue from there and start negotiating for anything below that price.

First thing before anything go online and DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Go to forums and see what other people paid, go to online retailers to see how much they charge. Print out competitors prices. You can then get an idea of how much you can haggle for. Starting off with a lowball price just shows you dont know what you're talking about.

Also High demand items dont really budge in price. Like a Toyota Prius, you wont get a super deal off the sticker price because it's such a high demand car.

Brands with tight distribution do not budge in price AT ALL. Like Apple products. You'll never see Apple computers on sale and they're the same price at ALL retailers. Same with Ping golf clubs.

I've always found it difficult to "get my haggle on" in traditional retail stores...I'm hoping these tips will help out.

Why pay more than neccesary?

Thanks!

My father is a consumate haggler, as was my grandmother. I've learnt from the best. It's definitely fun. Some stores inflate the price just because they expect people to haggle.

But independent retailers? I respect the fact that they find it hard enough to make a living against huge retailers, and pay the asking price. On the flip side to this, I often find small retailers offer me a discount without me even asking!
