What do you think of education and security?

I think these two will also be flourishing.

You make an especially good point about the eBay entity as a whole. The company itself is going to do especially well in either extreme, I think. A great economy means a lot of people are purchasing a lot of junk. This means those who sell a lot of stuff on eBay are going to perform well as well.

But a poor economy means a lot of people are selling *and* purchasing a lot of stuff. Namely to unload closet clutter and get a couple of extra bucks for the rent and to purchase say, a present for a friend.

But the market, as expected floods. I remember reading an article a couple of years ago about a woman who made her full time living on eBay reselling a wide variety of things. But she had to stop, because the market became too flooded. Too many people caught onto the eBay quick cash idea and rushed to sell their own junk, diluting her sales. So regardless of the economy it's good and bad for any type of business, I think.

Just wanted to pass on a insight on your "Good' list i.e. Healthcare. I'm an RN & work in the recovery room. We have seen a SIGNIFICANT drop in elective surgery. We normally have 28-35 surgeries scheduled every weekday. It has dropped to 5-7....I'm regularly losing a day of work a week. I'm not sure if people have lost their jobs & insurance or are AFRAID to take work off to have elective surgery. I agree with you that our aging population & every "growing" (obesity) population will create work in the healthcare industry, but wanted you to know we are already feeling the effects of the economy....

<a href="#comment-7869" rel="nofollow">#</a>Ruth→
Thanks Ruth, ya know, much like home repair, I would expect the car repair business to do well. In a recession, people tend to fix what they have rather than buy new. Thanks for the info!
