As someone who's been to an open house with the owner standing around, it's kinda creepy. You don't feel free to talk or look around. It's almost like being a guest and guests shouldn't poke around in closets or look at the size of the medicine cabinet or comment on the crab grass that's 8 inches tall in the yard or the small "feel" of the kitchen or .... talk about how GREAT the bedroom sizes are or how GREAT the fireplace looks or how you would love that screened in porch on the back. 

With the owner there, you can't talk freely about what you don't like, nor can you talk freely about what you DO like for fear of tipping your hand.</description>

Couldn't agree more about not being present when people are looking at your home - especially for planned open houses.

I supposed there are times when it's unavoidable ie last minute visits.
