If you’ve ever taken the time to read the best selling book in history, you know that it’s unique idiosyncrasies can make it difficult to understand. Different “books” within one book, chapters, verses, hard to pronounce names, written at different points in time, and its sheer controversy have made the Bible difficult to fully comprehend for the uninitiated. But those can’t be used as excuses anymore!
Mitch Maher has produced a DVD, Clarifying the Bible, that helps readers overcome these challenges. In it he shows:
1. Why the Bible is unique in it’s authorship, theme, and purpose.
2. Why the Bible’s written history is potentially confusing and how to easily understand it. Hint: it isn’t arranged chronologically.
3. How to interpret each book in the Bible and and how it ties into the other books.
4. Simple techniques to remember the purposes of each book.
The DVD shows Mitch giving a one hour and 45 minute presentation of the material and the accompanying book goes into a little more depth. I think the book and DVD could be used by anyone interested in the Bible, from secular colleges and universities to Sunday Schools and churches. Its chief appeal is that both the book and DVD give you a strong structural framework for understanding the HOW, WHAT, and WHY of each section and each book of the Bible.
The presentation on the DVD is outstandingly good. Mitch is a highly accomplished speaker who knows his material and speaks with conviction.
Clarifying the Bible is a resource that will introduce you to the Bible, from Genesis through Revelation, and will help you understand and read with confidence. You’ll see the big picture, the whole, and how each of the parts fit together.
