I think reaching someone is already a difficult task when trying to contact the credit bureau. Many of my friends were surprised when they were declined because of all the loans and money that they owed from the past, thinking it wouldn't affect their credit now because they're older. They were in for a rude awakening. I would say generally it's good to just get a credit report every once in awhile whether or not you sign up for a credit card or not.
