Happiness, Freedom, and Peace of Mind

by Ron

If you’ve ever scrolled to the bottom of an article here on The Wisdom Journal, you’ve probably noticed the quote widget. A few days ago, it had a quote that really struck home with me.

“There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life — happiness, freedom, and peace of mind — are always attained by giving them to someone else.” General Peyton Conway March, Army Chief of Staff (late nineteenth century)

How odd that a grizzled old Army general noted this. Perhaps our societal perception is wrong.

Soldiers don’t crave war, they crave happiness, freedom, and peace of mind. They’re just willing to fight for those ideals if they have to.

May God bless and give that happiness, freedom, and peace of mind to our military soldiers!
