I've been looking through your archives. This is a great post. I too was the victim of identity theft via a family member, not once, but twice. The sad part was, it was my own mother who used my personal information to get several credit cards that she promptly ran up and after a while, could not pay off. I found out when Citibank contacted me about an outstanding balance and told them that I did not have a CB card with that account number. I did everything you did less press charges, she is 82 and has health issues and just could not get up the courage to send my own mother to jail. While it has taken me a long time to sort throught that, plus a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, I am seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. I never got an apology, was told by my mother that "I owed her those cards" and she "never saw an issue" using my identity. Yikes.

Ray→

No. He did tell me to "follow Biblical principles on forgiveness" after he tried to tell me he was only buying boxes of cereal and cans of soup to feed his family. It would have been over 4,000 cans of soup... 700+ boxes of cereal. I don't think he knew that I was told by the detective what all he bought.

Wow, this really sucks. Its hard to believe that a family member would do that to another family member. Did you ever get an apology?
