If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you know I’m a BIG fan of PerkStreet, the world’s best debit card rewards program. PerkStreet customers are able to earn fantastic rewards (perks), the best of which is CASH when they purchase the things they need using their PerkStreet MasterCard. These have to be “non-pin debit card purchases” which means you use your debit card as a credit card and signing for it rather than keying in your personal identification number (read: Why Do I get Rewarded for Non-Pin Debit Card Purchases?).
Traditionally PerkStreet customers have been able to earn 2% cash back when their balance was above $5,000 and one percent when their balance was under that. But the vast majority of customers maintain less than $5,000 so PerkStreet decided to alter their rewards program so that more rewards are given back to their customers. I think it says a lot about a a company’s dedication to customer service when over 90% of their customers communicate that they aren’t able to achieve the highest rewards level and the company responds with a better program. Starting April 4, 2012, PerkStreet customers can redeem their perks at 35,000 locations, including new options like Walmart, Applebee’s, Sears, Macy’s, T.J. Maxx and more. Here are all of the rewards partners whose gift cards we’ll offer. And stay tuned — they’ll be adding more in the coming months. Many of these options will be available electronically, which means they can be accessed even faster

Another new option for PerkStreet customers is the ability to redeem perks directly into your account. For every $22 in perks you redeem, you’ll get a $20 account credit in your account. Why the difference of 2 perks? PerkStreet gets a discount when they buy gift cards, so they’re able to offer a premium on them. That’s just one more way PerkStreet rewards YOU better than ANY other checking account.
