Is college worth it? That sounds like a good topic for an article!

To be sure, there are very high paying opportunities for the non-college person. I personally know of sales people who regularly make mid six figures and barely finished high school. Bill Gates dropped out of college. Was THAT a bad idea?

Hindsite is always 20/20, of course. The reasons someone should go to college go deeper than a financial "return on investment," at least they did for me. In my case, it was more personal than anything, a personal goal, and for the MBA, I just wanted it for my own satisfaction.

That leaves me with the off shore jobs comment. That is a complete post in itself and I will address it soon!

Keep checking back!

Yes, I liked your article...and also appreciate your opening up and telling your own experience.

So what do you say to those that are proclaiming that higher education isn't what it's cracked up to be these days? And that there is no longer any need for that kind of $ to be spent for the product received?

This is probably true, when the receiver decides to not use it to his best advantage. Or disregards it completely. Or doesn't finish their degree.
This is mostly immaturity.

The other is when they don't receive the education for which they paid.
This is the worst. Because academia suffers along with students ......and their families.

And there are many other reasons to add......I found this in a report by Phillis Schafly.

"Incredibly, U.S. News is telling college graduates to look for jobs that do not require a college diploma. Among the 31 best opportunities for 2008 are the careers of firefighter, hairstylist, cosmetologist, locksmith and security-system technician.

Where did the higher-skill jobs go? Both large and small companies are "quietly increasing off-shoring efforts." "

Full report here: www.eagleforum.org
I think most of this is simply aggravation on her part at what's happening in education.
But in business, that's something you don't run into very much.

From what I read here....you have chosen well. And this is something to consider.
I look forward to seeing your post.

Thank you.
