Roundup and Link Love – Book and DVD Giveaway Edition

Congratulations to TParkerson, Matthew , and Roxanne. These are the winners of the Difference Between a Handout, a Bailout, and a Gift drawing! Thank you for leaving a comment on “what makes giving a gift so enjoyable.” Now, I get to enjoy sending each of these three people a book, The Government Racket: Washington Waste from A to Z and a DVD called The Ultimate Gift . In my opinion, the books explains handouts and bailouts while the DVD explains what a true gift is.
Stay tuned for more giveaways and opportunities to get your name in the hat for something free! Now on to the links.
From the Life Skills Network:
Keep boredom at bay by starting simple traditions @ On Simplicity. My favorite on her list has to be “Godfather Weekend: Watch all three Godfather flicks, eat Italian food, and indulge in red wine. (Horse pranks are optional.)” That had me rolling with laughter!
Do you report all your income? @ My Dollar Plan. Yes, I do, but not because I’m altruistic or patriotic, it’s because I don’t like sleeping in a jail cell. It all gets reported!
How to resolve credit bureau reporting errors @ Frugal Dad. Bottom line: if it’s legit, it stays, so don’t fall for the “we can ‘fix’ your credit file” line from those shady companies that promise a credit score of 800 in two weeks. But if it is a real mistake, you do have options.
Three common excuses for less than excellent work @ My Supercharged Life. The excuse I hear most is “I don’t have the time.” If you don’t have the time to do it right the first time, when will you find the time to do it over?
Serve your community as a family this Christmas @ Simple Mom. This is a great idea. My family and I plan to serve at the Salvation Army again this year in their toy giveaway campaign.
18 means for living below your means @ Marc and Angel Hack Life. From the post “Live a comfortable life, not a wasteful one. Do not spend to impress others. Do not live life trying to fool yourself into thinking wealth is measured in material objects. Manage your money wisely so your money does not manage you. Always live well below your means.” That’s some really good, really simple advice.
From all over the blogosphere:
Anti-Social Government Disorder @ Mises Economics Blog. Could the problem be that bureaucrats are sociopaths or is the problem that “this morning’s regulator is this afternoon’s lobbyist?”
The greatest generation is missing a member @ Cash Money Life. Patrick writes a touching tribute to his grandfather. I feel that I missed out by not knowing him.
What are you doing about your 401(k) in this struggling economy? @ Broke Grad Student. I’m letting it ride, baby. The more the market tanks, the more I get to buy. If it was a good decision to buy something at $100, isn’t it a GREAT decision to buy the same thing at $50 … only now you get to buy TWO!
What to do when the stock market crashes @ The Dough Roller. Like I said, you buy, buy, buy. This may be the first major crash you’ve experienced, but it isn’t the first one that’s ever happened.
5 common budgeting myths @ Gather Little By Little. Writing a budget is one of the most important pieces of your financial puzzle. You just gotta know where your money goes and then you gotta direct it to go where YOU want it to go!
7 industries where you can make $1 million @ Free Money Finance. One I would add is water management. The demand for water is expected to grow at twice the population rate. There could be quite a lot of opportunity there.
10 ways to save this fall @ Being Frugal. My favorite was the last one: Start buying Christmas presents NOW!
