Congratulations to Becky from Family and Finances! You have been selected by the random number generator [2] I use as the winner of Smart Couples Finish RichDavid Bach.

Here are some of Becky’s great posts that I found:

A reason to declutter

Be sure to check these out and subscribe to the Family and Finances RSS Feed [3]. Thanks for entering the drawing Becky! If you’ll email me your address, I’ll get the book in the mail to you next week.

Here are some other great articles I found this week:

Plant an extra row in your garden for the needy in your community @ The Good Human. Just a note on this post: In Biblical times, when farmers would harvest their fields, they would get the majority of their crops stored for themselves or sold in the market within a few weeks. But since everything was hand harvested (and not trampled by a big ole John Deere), the plants would often times produce a second harvest. God instructed the Israelites through Moses “When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 19:9-10 [4] (gleanings were the second production of grain, fruit, or vegetables). It was built into their culture and their law to care for the poor and needy. All too often, we have shrugged off the needy to be cared for by the government. And, as Ronald Reagan once said, “Governments tend not to solve problems, only to rearrange them.” The idea to plant a garden for the needy has really touched me and I think that next year when we plan a large garden, I’m going to have a significant section designated for the local food bank or one of the missions downtown.
