Roundup and Link Love WordPress 2.5 Edition

by Ron on April 5, 2008

OK. I did it. I upgraded. The jury is still out. Several of my favorite plugins do not work and I kinda wish I had waited until they were re-written for 2.5, but it’s too late now.

Chief on the list was Absolute Comments which allowed me to respond within the comment management screen to all comments. It was my favorite plugin but hopefully Ozh will have it fixed soon.

Overall, I like the new format with WordPress 2.5 but it will take some getting used to. While I’m getting familiar with it, here are a few posts I found around the ‘net that I hope you’ll read and enjoy!

Try reading David’s post
on outdoor solar lighting @ The Good Human. There’s nothing like FREE energy and we waste opportunities to use it every day.

Madison has joined the staff at Mint! In case you haven’t heard of Mint, it is an online money management tool that has a beautiful interface and outstanding functionality. Madison (from My Dollar Plan) will be writing articles for Mint’s educational library. Congratulations!

Ciaran from Chance Favors
wrote a post on the quiet before the storm. Looks like he has some big changes and improvements planned for his blog….I wonder what he has up his sleeve? Hmmm.

Jeff from My Supercharged Life
wrote how a cruise opened up a world of adventure to his family. What a wonderful way to spend some time with your loved ones. My wife and I took a cruise on our honeymoon but that was 18 years ago and cruising has changed a lot since then. We may have to follow Jeff’s lead pretty soon.

Jason from Frugal Dad
uncovered a way that credit card companies can lower your FICO score, even if you do nothing wrong. All the more reason to ditch those guys!

Patrick at Cash Money Life encourages us to spend 10 bucks on someone you love. He did it by giving his wife a surprise gift of flowers. I’m still planning on giving mine some as well, but this morning I decided to take her out for a quiet cup of coffee at a new coffee bar in town. She loved it and I loved just being with her and seeing her eyes light up!

Speaking of flowers, have you been thinking of planting a home garden? Bill from Home Gardening Tips uses his 20 years experience to show you the best tools to help you select your plants. I’ll be using his methods and ideas!

Erica Douglas from erica.biz
asks “Are your business cards stuck in the 90′s?” I’ve thought about getting some printed for The Wisdom Journal and she has some great ideas that I WILL be using. Thanks Erica!

Over at The Positivity Blog, Henrik recounts 16 things he wishes he had been taught in school. Schools could easily incorporate his ideas into the curriculum, but I’m not holding my breath. Great read, please DO read this one.

Shama at After The Launch wrote her 100th blog post on a major marketing mistake made by many businesses. I agree with her. Avoiding this one mistake is critical in the life of ANY business…or blog.

I hope you enjoy these posts. Please take a moment and subscribe to their respective feeds to keep the good stuff coming! I’m back to getting acquainted with WordPress 2.5!

Absolute Comment is running fine on my 2.5 test blog. Just checking and testing again before I commit it, but it should be available within one or two days :)

Ron 's reply:

Fantastic! Thank you Ozh – I love your plugin!

Ron – Thanks for the link love! I upgraded to WP 2.5 last week and it seems to be working good for me. It did break my Gregarious plug-in and sadly, it doesn’t look like the author is going to fix it anytime soon. I’m going to have to bhcke out Absolute Comment. I haven’t used it before, but it sounds very handy.

thanks for the link Ron. WP 2.5 has been problematic for me too. It destroyed a few of my plug ins (including contact form) but I’ve made the replacements. I hope no more big upgrades for a while from Mullenweg and co.

I am probably going to start posting again shortly, but no rush… need to do my research. Funny enough, by not blogging it’s freed my mind to do a few things I otherwise wouldnt have done (for the purposes of improving my blog over the long run). We shall see…

I’m holding off for a little bit before upgrading. I’ve been busy and I want to make sure I have enough time to sit down and tinker with it if something goes wrong.

Thanks for the mention! :)
