Another great read. I feel it is seeing it in writing and it is someone else going through the same that makes it seem possible for others to do what needs doing also. By seeing it is possible and that someone else has laid down some of the ground work helps immensely for those who have problems getting started or figuring what direction they need to take first.

You do a great job in this respect, of laying out some very basic and factual information, but is amiss till someone points it out and then it is gotten as to which peice or parts are missing and can then be worked on so success in some way, shape or form can take place.

Keep up the great reads, I even pass this info alonge to my 20+ Nephew and my own kids! This is stuff that is useful to all ages, as, it is never too late to learn, learn new ways and to feel successful. Not all successes have to be work related and this is good for boosting ones moral enought to keep at it.

What a great article!!!! This article is surely a word of encouragement to me to remind me that I am not alone in desiring to change my condition. I feel lonely sometimes by doing these things to rise above my failures, but I cannot go through another year without making significant progress in getting out of debt. God Bless You sir indeed.

Hey Jeff, thanks for commenting! I like Dave Ramsey, too. I went to see him back in ‘97 in Chattanooga before he got so popular. He has really brought the debt reduction phenomena to the front page of many blogs. That’s a good thing.

This year, I’m making a truly concerted effort to take a huge bite out of our debt. Most of it is, of course, the mortgage, but I also have a vehicle loan and a large amount of student loans.

But right now I’m off to check your blog!

I am a big Dave Ramsey fan. As a result of following his baby steps, we will be paying off a home equity loan next month that will make us debt free except for our mortgage. I can’t wait! Our society is all about having what you want now, but the only way to really build wealth and financial independence is by freeing yourself of debt so you can earn interest instead of paying it.

Your story seems a lot like mine and my husbands. We have a long way to go to get out of debt, but we are working on it with every paycheck.
