do you think it is a good idea to get your wife to have power of attorney? got some friends who did that and later when the husband was injured at work and in the hospital, she was able to handle a lot of his financial things, especially with his insurance and workers comp. said she just showed them the paper (signed and notarized).  because he was incapacitated, they both swear by a general power of attorney. i just don&#039;t know though.</description>
